How to install McAfee Small Business Security?

This article is intended to help an Administrator or an Employee install Small Business Security to their computers and mobile devices.

After your purchase, you can install Small Business Security to your user Macs, PCs, and mobile devices by sending links to install or by accessing each device directly, logging into your McAfee account, and installing software to each Mac or PC. (Mobile Security is installed from the Google Play store.) Only the Administrator has access to send installation links or log in to the McAfee My Account site.

As an Administrator
After you purchase Small Business Security, follow the on-screen instructions to create an account at http://home.mcafee.com.

After you have created your account, generate install emails to your employees.

1. Log in to http://home.mcafee.com with your Administrator credentials.
2. Click the (+) tab to add a device.
3. Select the device type you want to protect.
4. Click Send Link.
5. Select the McAfee Small Business package.
6. Type the email address of the employee you want to send an install link to.
7. Click Send.
8. Repeat this process for every Mac and PC user you want to protect.

You can also install the product directly onto Macs and PCs using the following steps:

IMPORTANT: Before you begin, open the Downloads folder and verify that it does not contain an older version of the McAfee installer .dmg file. If it contains one, rename the file. Having an older copy in the Downloads folder could cause the Mac to mount the wrong installer and prevent the product from successfully activating. See the Related Information section, below, for more details.

1. On the device you want to protect, open a web browser and go to http://home.mcafee.com.
2. Log in with your Administrator credentials.
3. Click the (+) tab to add a device.
4. Select the device type you want to protect.
5. Click Download.
6. Select the McAfee Small Business package.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install.

For Mobile phones and tablets:

1. Log in at http://home.mcafee.com with your Administrator credentials.
2. Click the (+) tab to add a device.
3. Select the mobile device type you want to protect.
4. Click Send Link.
5. Select the McAfee Small Business package.
6. Click Next.
7. Type the phone number (for phones) or nickname and email address (for tablets) of your user.
8. Click Send Email (or Send Text, if you chose to text the mobile user).

McAfee^® Mobile Security can be downloaded from the Google Play store. 

As an Employee
Your Administrator must authorize your installation of McAfee Small Business and send you a link to install to your Mac, PC, or mobile device. After you receive the install email, follow these instructions:

1. Open the Welcome email from McAfee, sent by your Administrator.
2. Make a note of the Serial Number or Activation code.
3. Click Set up for PC, Set up for Mac, or Download Now, depending on your platform.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the product installation.

After your installation is complete, your McAfee product is accessed using the shield icon on the taskbar (PC), the dashboard (Mac), or the home screen on your tablet or mobile device.

McAfee has determined that if a McAfee installation .dmg file already exists in the Downloads folder, the installer might mount and install this older version to your Mac. However this older version can no longer be activated without the correct Serial Number.

Workaround:
Rename any McAfee Installation .dmg files in the Downloads folder before downloading the new package. This will ensure that only the latest version available gets installed. To rename the file, change the extension from .dmg to anything else, for example .dm_
